Cockroach Control Rialto

Cockroaches are disgusting pests so it’s no surprise that we get many calls when people discover them on their property. We don’t blame you. They can carry disease and promote symptoms in people with allergies and/or asthma. In addition to carrying diseases, they can be very difficult to get rid of. Once you’ve noticed one, there are likely many others hidden around the property.

German Cockroaches

German cockroaches are the most common cockroach found inside homes and businesses. A light brown or tan in color they have two horizontal stripes right behind their head and can be up to 16 mm in length. Smaller, younger cockroaches are darker in color but still have the stripes. The adults have wings but you don’t typically see them flying since they can run just as quickly.

So why are they in your home? They prefer to live in warm, humid environments such as the kitchen or bathroom, but those aren’t the only rooms they will invade. Certain items around your home could be an invitation to cockroaches, even if you haven’t had any previous problems with the pests.

They will feed on just about anything including non-food items to us; toothpaste, books, soap, etc. The best way to prevent them is ensuring a clutter-free home and getting rid of any excess paper or cardboard around the home. Use plastic containers to store your items instead of boxes to ward off the filthy cockroaches.

American Cockroaches

American cockroaches are the other type of cockroach that we commonly deal with in the Rialto area. They are the largest, ranging up to 50 cm long. Their coloring is typically reddish brown or mahogany and they feature a yellow band behind their head instead of stripes like the German cockroaches. American cockroaches won’t hesitate to fly but only adults have wings.

These aren’t the cockroaches that enter homes very often since they prefer warm, damp areas such as the flowerbeds around your home. They enjoy the mulch too. You might have heard of them referred to as “palmetto” bugs because they can live in the trees too. Sewer systems are typically the ideal home for American cockroaches but they find our homes while in search for food and water. They can enter your property the same way other pests enter; cracks and crevices around the home.
